We have just completed some excellent gifts for Glacier (a division of Sanlam). The task was to manufacture and brand some polar fleece knee blankets. At the start it was a bit tough because their vision entailed a specialized finishing process, namely blanket stitching. After one week of searching we finally found the machine that could do the job, but it took another week of training and fine tuning until we were satisfied with the quality of the operation. It is great when your bounderies are shifted by a client (ie, she knows what she wants and won’t settle for anything less) because the result is a positively coerced product development process which is educational and uplifting. Lava Ink is now a polar fleece blanket supplier (with binding, overlocking or blanket stitching).

Many residents of Johannesburg, South Africa, have got reason to celebrate in October. The Black Eyed Peas will be performing for one concert only on the 12th of October 2007 at the Nasrec center. This performance is part of their “Black, Blue and You” tour that will take them to thirteen countries, with South Africa ninth on
The tour is being presented in conjunction with Pepsi to promote their new “Pepsi More” advertising campaign, which features The Black Eyed Peas. Other countries that will be visited during this tour are China, Sweden, Poland, Hungary, Romania, South Korea, Nigeria, Australia, Mexico, Venezuela, Nicaragua and Thailand.

The Black Eyed Peas are from Los Angeles, California. This American hip-hop group continues to enjoy worldwide success since the release of their album “Elephunk” in 2003, which catapulted them to a level of success that had not been achieved by any other hip-hop group. The album reached sales of 7.5 million worldwide and The Black Eyed Peas received four Grammy nominations, winning one Grammy award. The Black Eyed Peas, consisting of will.i.am, Fergie, apl.de.ap and Taboo, are recognized internationally for their pop/dance style of hip-hop. They have always had a passion for making music together and for connecting with their audience in a way that results in everyone having a good time. Their album “Monkey Business”, which they put together while they were on tour, reflects this party mindset and was a huge success. The song “Pump It” from the album has become a jump-up-and-dance party anthem, reflecting the energy of a live Black Eyed Peas performance. The Black Eyed Peas have collaborated with a number of renowned artists, such as Justin Timberlake, Timbaland, Sting, Jack Johnson and James Brown, to produce some unique and unforgettable music.

The Black Eyed Peas last visited South African in May 2006 when they launched the Peapod Foundation with a benefit concert at Ellis Park Stadium in Johannesburg. The Peapod Foundation is dedicated to helping children in need. The group performed free of charge with the stipulation that tickets were to be distributed in a manner that would ensure that fans that would not ordinarily be able to afford attending a live concert would be given first preference. This was achieved by an SMS campaign whereby the first 20,000 fans who responded received tickets. All the money raised through this memorable concert went to charities.

So The Black Eyed Peas fans – get ready to welcome this group back to sunny South Africa and get your concert tickets today!

We are currently manufacturing some cloaks for a church choir. The design was a bit difficult because all we had for a sample was some pics that were downloaded from an American website. We did the patterns, sourced the fabric and made a physical sample. Here’s what it looks like.
